Giving The Gift of Time

Several years ago with the Christmas present countdown veering me right into Stressville, it suddenly became very clear that buying my husband more stuff was verging on insanity.
We’re both extremely busy and stuff was the last thing either of us needed. What we really needed was more time, specifically, more time spent together.
We had a chat…. Okay…. I said, “Honey, are we crazy? Let’s stop giving each other Christmas presents and start giving each other dates.” (As any Type A female would have said…) And low and behold Monthly Date Night was born.
For the singles or the newly married out there who are still in the raptures of love, Date Night probably sounds, in short, lame or maybe even silly.
But for we long suffering marrieds, Date Night, is… exciting. Imagine making time for each other to go and do the stuff you did when you were, in fact, dating. Going for ice cream, a movie, or a romantic dinner?
Ever since that Christmas Epiphany Scott and I have been celebrating Date Night twice a month; which recently has morphed into a date a week.
We’ve wandered around the Boardwalk after an ice cream at Ed’s on Queen Street East, gone to see movies before they’ve hit the small screen, and even indulged in a romantic dinner at Morton’s Steakhouse where we both had the best steaks either of us has ever eaten in our lives.
We’ve had cocktails at small bars downtown, hiked the urban tree lined trails of Toronto, and even been to a rock concert. Big or small – it hasn’t mattered because we’re spending time together laughing, talking and enjoying each others company, and that for us, is the best gift we could ever give to each other.
Here’s to adding the Gift of Time to your wish list.
Peace, love and fibre,

    Hi Marilyn ,

I love your style! In cooking and in life.

Where could I find your book ” Lick the Spoon” and a list of all your books? I understand that you have a new book coming soon. How soon?

    Love, health and good eating,

    Hi Anna,
Thanks for the lovely comment! Lick theSpoon has been out of print for years, the publisher went out of business in the early 2000’s – you might see a copy at a second hand store or at a library….
My next book will be out in September 2015!
    Peace, love and fibre,

What an absolutely fantastic idea! It’s too late for this year but it’s on my list for next. Sound like all is very well for you!
