To any foodie worth their weight in salt checking out a local grocery store when you’re traveling is akin to going to Disneyland! We foodies are always on the hunt for the new local gem, the new find, the new IT store. I am thrilled to announce that I found IT in Abbotsford, BC.
The Lepp Farm Market is everything I look for. Fabulous foods locally sourced with attention to quality and detail.
This large grocery store has everything you need to make a fabulous dinner right down to their heirloom tomatoes and goat cheese.
They have an old fashioned butcher shop only using meat that has been raised locally and fed an all-vegetable diet. Their cattle are hand selected and raised on small local feedlots. All of their beef, pork, and chickens are antibiotic free and are processed on site by their own butchers. If you think their cuts of meat are fabulous then wait until you check out their line of homemade sausages!
With a mandate to use as many local products as possible you’ll find interesting foods like locally canned tuna as well as salmon, locally milled grains and stone milled whole wheat flour, as well as produce they either grow in their own fields or have sourced from other local farmers, or from their own orchards in the Okanagan.
As soon as you walk into the store you know that the people here know and love food. Everything is so beautifully displayed and you can almost taste how fabulous it’s going to be.
I haven’t been this impressed by a store in a really long time. They may have started off as a local corn stand but they have become, in one short year, a true British Columbian Gem. Drive out for the meat, stay for the produce and everything in between, you’ll be hooked.
